Hemlocks at Chapel Lake - 3

Oil on canvas, 30" x 24"   This painting was inspired by one of my favorite places in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  There is a 200 ft. drop off the  side of this ledge overlooking Chapel Falls.  This painting is one of 2 oils that will be part of the upcoming exhibition - " Three Decades of Art at NMC" at the Art and Design Center, Traverse City, Michigan.  The exhibition opens March 29th and runs through May 31, 2014.

Tunnel

Oil on canvas, 8" x 10"  - This is the first in a  series of oils  of a dirt road on Old Mission Peninsula within a few miles of the lighthouse.  On either side are orchards and possibly a vineyard.

Stand of Birch Trees

Oil on canvas, 8" x 10"    I was fascinated with the diagonals created by the  birch trees and the play of sunlight and shadows across the snow. It was a bitterly cold morning, about -17 degrees.

Winter Woods

Oil on canvas - 9" x 12"     This small oil was completed in 2008  as a demonstration piece for one of my students.  A larger oil, 24"x 36" was completed later that year.   A celebration of the  beauty of a "classic" winter that has embraced us for the past 2 months.
